INDIANAPOLIS - UMass rowing closed out its 2014 spring season at the NCAA Championships on Sunday morning as the team ended competition in 21st following appearances in the D Finals by the Varsity 4+, Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+. The Varsity 4+ finished second in its race to secure 20th place while the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ each earned 21st.
The Varsity 4+ appeared in the first event of the finals round and crossed in 7:49.499 behind only Northeastern, which reached the finish in 7:45.948. Emily Hajjar, Rachel Boudreau, Gabrielle Hayward, Kyla Miller and Sam Wonderlin competed in the Varsity 4+ for UMass, which bested Boston University and Jacksonville.
Haley Eovine, Haley York, Hannah Monahan, Catherine Murphy, Hadley Irvin, Natalie Boisvert, Teagan Rolf von den Baumen, Krysten Menks and Nicole Juul-Hindsgaulraced in the Second Varsity 8+, which took second in its D final in 7:22.797. The squad finished behind Boston University by seven seconds but outpaced Jacksonville, which tallied a time of 7:48.397.
The Varsity 8+ secured a third place finish among four teams competing in the D Final in 7:03.851. Oklahoma won the event with a time of 6:57.562 while Boston University took second in 6:58.064. Heather Pekarovich, Taryn Wilson, Emily Mann,Marika Kopp, Pippa Edwards, Candace Miller, Sam Kolovson, Lauren St. Pierre andAllanah Rubi-Mooney put the Minutewomen ahead of Jacksonville in the race as the Dolphins finished in 7:16.495.
Ohio State won the NCAA National Championship with 126 team points ahead of California (118) and Brown (116). Stanford took fourth with 110 points while Virginia earned fifth (105).
