NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – With two goals in the first half, and three in the second, the Richmond Spiders outscored the VCU Rams, 5-0, to advance to tomorrow’s 2012 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship final.
Richmond’s sophomore midfielder Rebecca Barry scored the first goal 5:05 into the match, unassisted, and came back to post the second goal of the match 29:32 into the first half.
The Spiders led the remainder of the game. Senior midfielder Jackie Gyger was assisted on the third goal by sophomore forward Samantha Ostoich. Barry scored the fourth goal unassisted, and Rookie of the Year, Taylor Deitrick, posted the final goal of the match, assisted by freshman midfielder Avery Safford.
Richmond will face the winner of the Massachusetts vs. Temple semifinal game on Saturday at 2:00pm.
