Oct. 1, 2012

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - VCU's Arialle Hess was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, while Richmond's Taylor Deitrick earned Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league office, Monday for games played Sept. 23-30.

Hess, a senior forward, earned Player of the Week honors after recording eight points this past week against Hofstra, 6-2. The Allentown, Pa., native's four goals against the Pride mark the most goals in a single game match this season for the Rams, coming close to VCU's school record of five goals scored by Alycia Yoder in 1992. The Rams hold an 8-2 record, which leads the conference and will open league play Friday, Oct. 5 against Temple.

Deitrick, a freshman forward, was named Rookie of the Week after scoring the first goal of the match, helping Richmond to a 2-1 victory over No. 19 William and Mary. The Harrisburg, Pa., native leads the Spiders with seven goals on the season, which ranks her fourth in the Atlantic 10. Richmond ranks third in conference standings with a record of 6-4 as they prepare for their first conference game this week against Massachusetts on Saturday, Oct. 6.
