NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU’s Kelsey Scherrer was named Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, while Temple’s Alyssa Delp earned Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league Monday for games played Sept. 10-16.
Scherrer, a senior forward, earned Player of the Week honors after contributing to the Rams’ wins against Davidson, 2-0, and Appalachian State, 4-3. The Chesapeake, Va., native scored one goal against Davidson, and tallied one goal and one assist against Appalachian State. After Scherrer’s five points this past week, she became the first Ram in school history to reach 100 career points.\
Delp, a freshman forward, earned Rookie of the Week accolades after posting a total of eight points against Delaware, and No. 15 Drexel. The Owls finished 1-1, falling to Delaware, 4-3, but came back to defeat No. 15 Drexel, 5-1. The Fleetwood, Pa., native scored two goals in each match, leading the Owls this past week.
