Oct. 8, 2012

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Richmond’s Christina Amorose was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, while fellow Spider Kerri McDonald earned Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league office Monday for games played Oct. 1-7.

Amorose, a junior forward, earned Player of the Week accolades after scoring the only goal of the match against Massachusetts, making it the second straight year she has scored the game-winning goal against the Minutewomen. The Louisville, Ky., native also scored one goal against Villanova, defeating the Wildcats, 3-0, tallying her fifth goal of the season the 15th of her career. After the first week of conference play, the Spiders are ranked first in the conference and No. 22 nationally.

McDonald, a freshman midfielder, was named Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The Dromore, Ireland native recorded two points this past week against Villanova, scoring in the 45th minute of the match. Her midfield play was key in both victories against Massachusetts and Villanova. McDonald now has five goals on the season, placing her in the A-10 Conference Top-10 in overall goals scored on the season.
