NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –-  VCU senior Stephanie DeMasi has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, while UMass freshman Izzie Delario collected her second consecutive and third Rookie of the Week honor this season.  The student-athletes were honored for matches played between Oct. 28 – Nov. 3.

DeMasi played a vital role in a pair of victories for VCU that vaulted the Rams to a spot in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship. DeMasi assisted Kendell Combs on the lone goal of the game in VCU’s 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph’s on Friday.  On Sunday, the Virginia Beach, Va. native scored five minutes into overtime to give the Rams a 3-2 win over La Salle and secured spot for VCU in this weekend’s championship.

A native of Rehoboth Beach, Del., Delario netted five points over the final weekend of the regular season in helping to lead UMass to a pair of A-10 victories along with preserving a perfect 7-0 conference record for the Minutewomen.  Delario recorded an assist during UMass’ 4-2 win at Lock Haven before she added pair of goals as the Minutewomen rallied for a 4-3 win in overtime at Saint Francis. Delario’s assist againstt Lock Haven came on the third goal of the game giving UMass an early lead over Saint Francis before recording her second goal of the day during overtime to send the Minutewomen away victorious. With her five-point weekend, Delario is now second in the conference among all freshmen for points despite having missed six contests due to injury.

UMass will host the A-10 Championship which will begin on Friday, November 8 when Richmond and Lock Haven square off at 11:00 a.m., while UMass and VCU will compete in the second semifinal at 2:00 p.m.  The two winners will advance to the finals on Saturday, November 9, at 2:00 p.m.
