Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards Announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Massachusetts’ Chris Inglis was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, while Richmond’s Lauren Hines and La Salle’s Liz Jordan were selected as the league’s Women’s Swimming and Diving Co-Performers of the Week. The Rams’ Steve Sholdra and the Minutewomen’s Jocelyn Yuen were named Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the A-10 office for meets competed Nov. 12-18.

Inglis, a junior, garnered Men’s Performer of the Week honors after competing this past week at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University. The Mashpee, Mass., native placed first in the 200-yd freestyle (1:39.29), second in the 500 freestyle (4:33.67), and fifth in the 1650 freestyle (16:16.38), leading the Minutemen to a first place meet victory.

Hines, a junior, earned Women’s Co-Performer of the Week honors after this past week’s competition at the Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason. The Roanoke, Va., native finished first in the 200 backstroke (2:00.41), 100 freestyle (55:08), 50 freestyle (23.92), and 100 backstroke (55:08), breaking the meet record and also swimming an NCAA B qualifying time. Hines also took first place in the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.

Jordan, a senior, was also named Women’s Co-Performer of the Week honors after an impressive weekend at the Bucknell Invitational. The Tobyhanna, Pa., native took home three first place victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.30), 50 freestyle (23.40), and 100 freestyle (50.82), which broke the La Salle school record. Jordan was also a part of four relay teams, all of which finished first.

Sholdra was named Men’s Rookie of the Week after competing at the Bucknell Invitational. The Renton, Wash., native finished first in the 500 freestyle (4:29.82), second in both the 400 individual medley (3:59.81) and 200 butterfly (1:50.67), and ninth in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.43). Sholdra broke the school record in the 500 freestyle and posted three top times for the A-10.

Yuen garnered Women’s Rookie of the Week after posting one first place victory in the 200 individual medley (2:05.25) and a pair of second place finishes in the 100 butterfly (56.27) and 200 butterfly (2:02.64). The Princeton, N.J., native ranks first in the A-10 in the 200 butterfly, second in the 200 individual medley, and fourth in the 100 butterfly.
