NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Shintaro Noguchi of Fordham was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, while teammate Brienne Ryan and Mali Kobelja of Richmond received Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Co-Performers of the Week. Steve Sholdra of Fordham and Kelly Yang of Richmond were named Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office Tuesday for meets competed Jan. 14-20.

Noguchi, a junior, was named Men's Performer of the Week after competition this past weekend against Iona and La Salle. The Tiburon, Calif., native won three individual events against La Salle, which included the 100 freestyle (46.84), 200 freestyle (1:42.91) and 100 butterfly (50.54). Noguchi also won the 50 freestyle (21.49) against Iona and was a member of two first place relay teams.

Ryan, a senior, earned Women's Co-Performer of the Week after taking home three individual victories in the 100 butterfly (58.03), 100 backstroke (55.01) and 200 backstroke (2:00.55) against Iona, La Salle, and Richmond this past weekend. The New Windsor, N.Y., native also helped the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams to two first place victories.

Kobelja, a junior, was also named Women's Co-Performer of the Week after winning two individual races against Rutgers and Central Connecticut State on Friday and three individual races against Fordham and La Salle on Saturday. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native competed in the 100 freestyle (52.00), 100 breaststroke (1:05.06), and was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay squad on Friday. Kobelja also competed in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.55), 200 individual medley (2:06.02), 200 breaststroke (2:20.41), and helped her team to a first place finish in the 200 medley relay on Saturday.

Sholdra received Men's Rookie of the Week after taking first place in the 200 individual medley (1:57.36) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.00) against Iona on Friday. The Renton, Wash., native then won three individual events against La Salle, including the 1,000 freestyle (9:33.81), 200 butterfly (1:55.52), and 500 freestyle (4:40.75) on Saturday.

Yang was named Women's Rookie of the Week after competition this past week against Rutgers and Central Connecticut State on Friday and Fordham and La Salle on Saturday. The Ellicott City, Md., native took home three first place victories in the 100 butterfly (55.47 and 56.04) and 50 freestyle (24.38). Yang also finished second in the 200 butterfly, fifth in the 100 backstroke, and was a member of the 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay squads.
