Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards Announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Sam Conchurattt of Xavier was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, while Michaela Butler of Massachusetts was selected as the league’s Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. Brendan Hulseman of Saint Louis and Jocelyn Yuen of Massachusetts were named Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the A-10 for meets competed Dec. 5 – Jan. 14.

Conchuratt, a senior, garnered Men’s Performer of the Week after competing in two meets within 24 hours of each other this past weekend, winning three individual races and one relay event. The Tualatin, Ore., native picked up wins in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly against IUPUI and Ball State on Friday, and helped the 200 freestyle relay team to a first place finish. Conchuratt added his third individual victory in the 200 individual medley Saturday against Cleveland State and Oakland.

Butler, a senior, earned Women’s Performer of the Week after competition this past weekend at the University of Rhode Island Invitational. The Dennisport, Mass., native took first place in the 1-meter dive (268.20) and 3-meter dive (294.55), remaining undefeated in both events for the 2012-13 season.

Hulseman was named Men’s Rookie of the Week after swimming against IUPUI and Western Illinois this past weekend. The Evanston, Ill., native took first place in the100 freestyle (47.53) and 200 freestyle (1:42.83), third in the 500 freestyle (4:54.55), and was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay squad.

Yuen received Women’s Rookie of the Week after taking three first place victories at the University of Rhode Island Invitational this past weekend. The Princeton, N.J., native competed in the 100 butterfly (57.98), 200 butterfly (2:08.07) and 200 individual medley (2:09.79).
