NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham’s Shintaro Noguchi was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, while fellow Ram Brienne Ryan was selected as the league’s Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. Also honored were Fordham’s Steve Sholdra and La Salle’s Johan Roth, who earned Men’s Co-Rookie of the Week honors, while Xavier’s Mackenna Rife was named Women’s Rookie of the Week, as announced by the A-10 office for meets competed Oct. 15-21.

Noguchi, a junior, garnered Men’s Performer of the Week accolades after competing this past weekend against Bucknell and Connecticut. The Tiburon, Calif., native took first place in both the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.67 and 100 butterfly with a time of 50.02, the top time in the A-10 so far this season. Noguchi also helped both relays to two third place victories, clocking a split of 22.37 in the 200 medley and 46.75 in the 400 freestyle.

Ryan earned Women’s Performer of the Week honors after kicking off her senior season with two individual and two relay wins this past weekend against Bucknell and Connecticut. The New Windsor, N.Y., native broke the pool record at UConn in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 55.38, while also claiming the win in the 200 backstroke (2:02.68), making her the A-10 leader in both events. Ryan also helped the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays to two first place victories, splitting 26.04 in the 200 medley and 51.66 in the 400 freestyle.

Sholdra earned Men’s Co-Rookie of the Week accolades after competing this past weekend against Bucknell and Connecticut. The Renton, Wash., native finished first in both the 500 freestyle (4:37.12) and 1000 freestyle (9:24.03), and took second in the 200 butterfly (1:54.82), all of which lead the A-10 so far this season, and was a part of the third place 400 freestyle relay, posting a split of 49.14.

Roth was also named Men’s Co-Rookie of the Week after swimming this past weekend against Drexel. The Western Cape, South Africa native took first place in the 100 breaststroke (58.78), 200 breaststroke (2:06.09) and 200 individual medley (1:57.48). The Explorer now leads the A-10 in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and is runner up to freshman Michael Glenn of UMass in the 200 individual medley.

Rife garnered Women’s Rookie of the Week accolades after competing this past weekend against Cincinnati on Friday (Oct. 19) and Miami (Ohio) on Saturday (Oct. 20). The Olathe, Kan., native finished the weekend with four first place victories and two third place finishes. The Musketeer competed in the 500 freestyle (5:09.26; 5:09.48), 1000 freestyle (10.31.84; 10:32.35), 200 individual medley (2:17.70), and 400 individual medley (4:48.60).
