NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Xavier’s Chad Thompson and Fordham’s Shintaro Noguchi were named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Co-Performers of the Week, while Katherine Cook of Richmond was named Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. Luke Johanns of Xavier and Kelley Yang of Richmond were named Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league Tuesday for meets competed Jan. 28 – Feb. 3.
Thompson, a junior, received Men’s Co-Performer of the Week after competition this past week against Wright State. The Dekalb, Ill., native placed first in both the 400 individual medley (4:09.29) and 100 backstroke (52.52), while also helping the men’s 200 freestyle relay team break the pool record with a time of 1:23.85.
Noguchi, a junior, was also named Men’s Co-Performer of the Week after competition against Massachusetts. The Tiburon, Calif., native placed first in both the 200 butterfly (1:51.74) and 100 freestyle (46.22), while also swimming on the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay squads which placed second overall.
Cook, a sophomore, garnered Women’s Performer of the Week after diving against Villanova this past week. The Kenilworth, Ill., native took home two first place finishes in the one meter dive (274.05) and three meter dive (306.83), setting a new school record in the three meter dive.
Johanns received Men’s Rookie of the Week after a great performance against Wright State. The Eagan, Minn., native was a member of the 400 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams that broke the pool record in both events, while also taking home a first place victory in the 50 freestyle (21.26).
Yang captured Women’s Rookie of the Week after swimming against Villanova this past week. The Ellicott City, Md., native finished first in the 100 butterfly (54.97) and 200 butterfly (2:02.98), while also swimming on the 200 medley relay which took first place and the 400 freestyle relay which took second.
