Inglis, Butler, Glenesk and Werenski Earn A-10 Swimming & Diving Weekly Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Chris Inglis and Michaela Butler of Massachusetts have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday. Also honored were La Salle’s Mattias Glenesk, who was named Men’s Rookie of the Week, and UMass’ Meriza Werenski, who was named Women’s Rookie of the Week. Awards were based off performances from Jan.27-Feb.2.
Inglis, a senior from Mashpee, Mass., claimed gold in both the 100-yd (45.78) freestyle and the 200-yd (1:38.40) freestyle this past weekend against Fordham. Swimming in his final home meet, Inglis also recorded a third-place finish in the 200-yd medley relay.
Butler, a senior from Dennisport, Mass., completed her undefeated regular season with wins in both the 1-meter springboard (286.87) and 3-meter springboard (334.58) as the Minutewomen defeated Fordham, 164-136.
Glenesk, a freshman from Austin, Texas, recorded a first-place finish in the 1,000-yd freestyle (9:24.89) and a second-place finish in the 500-yd freestyle (4:38.63) as the Explorers competed this past weekend against Penn. This marks the second consecutive A-10 Rookie of the Week award for Glenesk.
Werenski, a freshman from South Hadley, Mass., finished first in the 200-yd breaststroke (2:19.92), the 200-yd individual medley (2:09.09), and was also a member of the 200-yd medley relay that finished first. Werenski finished second in the 200-yd freestyle with a time of 1:52.42.
