A-10 Softball Student-Athletes Named to NFCA All-Region Teams

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A total of 13 student-athletes from the Atlantic 10 Conference were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region teams announced on May 15.

The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.

392 players from 158 different programs across the nation were selected. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region.

Earning First Team Mid-Atlantic Region honors was Fordham’s Elise Fortier (SS). The Mid-Atlantic Second Team included Dayton’s Tiffany Ricks (1B), Fordham’s Michele Daubman (UT/P), George Mason’s Brooke Blankenship (3B) and Tiffany Webb (OF), along with Brianna Lore (P) of Saint Louis.  Dayton’s Alysha Isaacson (DP/UT-Non-P) and Gabrielle Snyder (UT/P) along with Fordham’s Kayla Lombardo (3B) earned third team honors.

Jena Cozza (2B) of Massachusetts was named to the Northeast Region First Team, while Saint Joseph’s Ashley Alden (1B) was named Northeast Region Second Team. Tiffany Meeks (1B) of Massachusetts and Saint Joseph’s Hannah Dionne (C) were named third team.

Fortier, the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, earned first team all-region honors for the second consecutive year after leading the Rams to the A-10 title in back-to-back seasons. Heading into this weekend’s NCAA action, Fortier is batting .384 on the season with 19 home runs and 70 RBI. Fortier was also recognized as First Team All-Conference and as a member of the All-Championship team.

Cozza, the A-10 Rookie of the Year, earned first team all-region honors after batting .360 with five home runs and 24 RBI. The freshman from Wantagh, N.Y., was also named Second Team All-Conference and to the All-Championship Team.

Ricks, a junior from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, earned second team all-region honors after leading the Flyers and the A-10 with 69 hits on the season while also ranking second in the league with 119 total bases and 207 total plate appearances. She was also third in the A-10 with 44 RBI and 12 home runs. In addition to being named to the A-10 All-Conference First Team, Ricks also picked up All-Championship Team honors for her postseason play.

Daubman, the A-10 Softball Championship Most Outstanding Player, posted a record of 18-10 this season with an ERA of 2.58 over 154.2 innings pitched. Daubman also batted .247 on the season with six home runs and 25 RBI for the Rams and was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Year.

Blankenship, a junior from Glen Allen, Va., finished the season with a .394 batting average, and a team-best seven home runs, 49 RBI and 12 steals.  The third basemen led the Patriots with a .701 slugging percentage and also set a new record for on-base percentage, ending the season with a team-leading .479 percentage. 

Webb, a senior from Smithfield, Va., led the A-10 with a .398 batting average to cap off her senior season.  Webb finished the season with three triples and only six strikeouts while posting a .474 slugging percentage and a .434 on-base percentage.

Alden, a junior from Ivyland, Pa., finished the season batting a career-high .345 and led Saint Joseph’s in hits (39), home runs (6), RBI (23) and slugging percentage (.584). She was also named Second Team All-Conference and to the All-Championship team.

Lore, a sophomore from Sullivan, Mo., finished her sophomore season with an A-10 leading 25 victories over 243.0 innings pitched. She posted a record of 25-13 from the circle and also batted .271 with three home runs and 33 RBI. Lore was also named Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Year in addition to being a member of the All-Championship team.

Isaacson, a senior from Chula Vista, Calif., was named third team all-region following the 2014 season in which she posted a .370 batting average. Her team-best 16 doubles ranked second in the conference and she was also named to the All-Conference First Team.

Snyder, a freshman from Indianapolis, Ind., was also named third team all-region for the Flyers as she pitched 125 innings with seven wins, four saves and 76 strikeouts; she also played right field and finished the season tied for second on the team with a .370 average. Of Snyder's 40 hits on the season, she recorded eight doubles, one triple and four home runs in her first season of collegiate softball.

Lombardo heads into NCAA play with a batting average of .325 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI. The junior from Pompton Plains, N.J., was also named a member of the All-Championship team.

Meeks hit a team-high seven home runs while batting .299 with 20 RBI for the Minutewomen. Meeks was previously recognized as NFCA All-Region in 2013 (First Team).

Dionne, a sophomore from Hampton, N.H., finished the season batting .359 with a home run and 15 RBI for the Hawks. She also had an on-base percentage of .447.  

The 2014 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 28 via NFCA.org.
