BRONX, N.Y. - After winning their second A-10 title and clinching their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four years, the Fordham Rams have learned that they will head to Norman, Okla., for NCAA Regional action.
Coach Orchard's squad will take part in a regional featuring a local product and two national powerhouses. The Rams will open up action on Friday, May 17th, facing off against the 25th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks at 6 PM on ESPN3. Host school and top team in the nation Oklahoma will play the Regional's other opening game against Marist.
Just like the Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Regional is a double elimination format, with the top school advancing to the Super Regionals.
Friday will not be the first time that Fordham and Arkansas square off on the diamond. In 2009, the Rams and Razorbacks played a nine inning affair that saw Arkansas come out on top 7-3.
This is the second time that Fordham will play in the same Regional as Oklahoma, as the Sooners and Rams squared off in 2010 in College Park, Md. The two teams played twice that tournament, with Oklahoma winning both games.
The team that the Rams have played the most in the Norman Regional, Marist, is certainly no stranger to Rose Hill. Fordham and the Red Foxes have met 17 times on the softball diamond and the Rams have come out on top in 13 of those contests.
