Ricks, Lore, Van Hoven & Brunck Earn A-10 Softball Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton’s Tiffany Ricks and Saint Louis’ Brianna Lore have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played Mar. 17–23.  Fordham’s Amy Van Hoven and Saint Joseph’s Madeline Brunck were also honored as the A-10 Co-Rookies of the Week.

Ricks, a junior from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, led the Flyers with a .583 average (7-for-12) at the plate with a home run, seven RBI and two runs scored as the Flyers posted a record of 2-2 last week. Over the weekend against Rhode Island, Ricks went four-for-five with a grand slam, a double and a stolen base Friday in Dayton’s 9-5 victory, scoring two runs and collecting six RBI. On Saturday, Ricks was three-for-three with an extra base-hit and a RBI. For the week, she posted an on-base percentage of .615 and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Lore, a sophomore from Sullivan, Mo., was 3-0 from the circle this week with an ERA of 1.47 as the Billikens defeated Kansas in extra innings and swept A-10 conference foe, Massachusetts. Lore went the distance against Kansas as Saint Louis won 4-3 in nine innings. Lore allowed only three runs on 11 hits over nine innings while striking out five.  She also pitched a combined 10 innings against Massachusetts allowing only one run on six hits.

Van Hoven, a freshman from West Monroe, N.Y., batted .455 (5-for-11) over four games as the Rams posted a record of 3-1 for the week. In the second game of a doubleheader against Virginia, Van Hoven went two-for-three with a double and an RBI, helping the Rams to a victory over the Cavaliers. For the week, Van Hoven recorded two multi-hit games, three extra base-hits, three runs scored, four walks and on-base percentage of .625.

Brunck, a freshman from Cream Ridge, N.Y., batted .333 (4-for-12) with four RBI and two runs scored this past week. Brunck went three-for-six at the plate with two extra base-hits, two RBI and a run scored against George Mason. Against Penn on Sunday, Brunck collected two RBI and scored once as Saint Joseph’s earned 5-2 and 5-0 wins. For the week, Brunck slugged .583 and batted .333 overall.
