ATLANTA, Ga. - University of Richmond Spiders senior men's golfer Daniel Walker began play at the 2013 NCAA Division I Championship on Tuesday, carding a first round score of 74 (+4) to tie for 113th place.

"It was a little bit of a tough day today," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said.  "Daniel didn't hit a lot of greens - saved some nice pars, but sometimes got in very difficult spots to chip it close.  The golf course is playing very firm an very fast, so it's important to hit greens in regulation. We are looking forward to getting back after it tomorrow."

Walker began play on the back nine of the Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, shooting a 35 (E) in his first nine holes.  Walker then carded a 39 (+4) on the front nine to finish the day with a total of 74 (+4).

Tuesday was also a great day for Walker for another reason, as the senior was named to the PING All-East Region team.  The All-Region honor is the first for the Spiders since 2008 when both Jordan Utley and Robert Lindstrom were named to the team.

Walker will continue play at the 2013 NCAA Division I Championship on Wednesday in Atlanta.  For live results, be sure to go to RichmondSpiders.com and also follow the team on Twitter - @SpiderMensGolf.
