NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton’s John Muir and Richmond’s David Germann were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Wednesday. Muir and Germann were recognized for tournaments played during the week of Oct. 17-23.

Muir achieved two career-bests earlier this week, as the Kettering, Ohio, native fired 70 in round two and finished second at the 2012 University of Dayton Fall Invitational, Oct. 22-23, at the NCR Country Club. Muir finished just one stroke back of medalist Nick Cunningham of Oakland with his 36-hole total score of 141.

Germann helped Richmond to a second-place finish at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, Oct. 21-23, at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powell’s Point, N.C. with his 4 over par 220 (73-76-71). Germann finished in a tie for 23rd among the 94 golfers at the event. Richmond carded a final round 280 (-8) to finish as the runner-up with a total of 866 (+2).  Georgia Southern won the 18-team tournament with a score of 854 (-10).  The Spiders' final round score is tied for the fourth-best in school history, while the 54-hole total is tied for the seventh best all-time.

For the second-straight year, the 13-team Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Championship will be held April 26-28 at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla. The par 72 course will play at 7,055 yards for the three-day tournament.
