NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple’s Matt Teesdale and Brandon Matthews have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after the duo shared individual medalist honors at the Princeton Invitational.
The pair carded identical scores of 69-71-69—209 to finish the three day tournament four under par and help the Owls to a second-place team finish in the 14 team field at the Springdale Golf Club.
Teesdale and Matthews shot two under on day one, shot an even par 71 on day two and closed out the tournament by shooting a final round two under to finish atop the leaderboard that included 75 participants.
Their 209 for the tournament ties Andrew Mason (209 at the 2010 McLaughlin) for the third lowest 54-hole score in Temple history. It was Teesdale's first individual title as an Owl while Matthews notched the second of his rookie season.
A native of DuPont, Pa., Matthews earns his seventh Rookie of the Week honor of the 2012-13 season, while Teesdale, a native of Horsham, Pa. earns his first Player of the Week accolade.
