NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—LaSalle’s Mike Johnson and Tanapol Vattanapisit of Xavier have been named the Atlantic 10’s Co-Men’s Golfers of the Week. Temple’s Brandon Matthews earned the league’s Rookie of the Week honors. All three awards, which the A-10 announced Wednesday, are for events played from April 17-23.

Johnson, a junior from Ambler, Pa., won his second collegiate event with an even-par 72 on Tuesday at the Saint Peter’s Peacock Invitational. He tied with four other players but won on a match of cards, thanks to an eagle on the par 5, 555-yard 17th hole. Johnson’s other medalist honors during his career came during the 2011 Swarthmore Invitational. He also finished second at the 2013 Rhody Invite and the 2011 Immaculata Invitational.

Vattanapisit, a sophomore from Rayong, Thailand, won individual medalist honors after defeating J.D. Dornes from Penn State in a playoff. This is the first collegiate title for Vattanapisit, who had finished as high as fourth prior to this past weekend. He shot a 73-73-70-216 to earn medalist honors and spur Xavier to a second-place finish on the par 71, 7,202-yard course.

A freshman from DuPont, Pa., Matthews led Temple team and tied for sixth overall at The Century Intercollegiate. He shots a 75-76-151 in the two day tournament, helping the Owls to finish third. His sixth place finish was among 48 golfers at the par 71, 7,005-yard Century Golf Club.

The Atlantic 10 Golf Championship will be played this weekend at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla. The first round of the three-round event will tee off on Friday beginning at 7:30 am.
