
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—VCU senior Rocky Khara was named the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week Thursday, while his freshman teammate Hanish Nagrani and George Washington freshman Michael Heda shared Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
Khara placed second at the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Intercollegiate, helping VCU to a first-place finish. The Sebring, Fla., native placed second after falling in a three-way, sudden-death playoff for medalist honors. He shot a six-under 207 (70-68-69) to record his career-best individual finish in the 92-player field.
Weston, Fla., native Heda recorded a 215 (71-73-71) to tie Nagrani for 19th place in the 92-player field. He bookended the three-day event with even-par 71s on Kilmarlic Golf Club’s 6,550-yard layout. He also tied for third in the field with 39 total pars and his Par-3 (T-3rd, 1-under) and Par-5 (T-10th, 5-under) scoring were among the best in the event.
Nagrani, who also took rookie honors last week, shot final-round 66 to help VCU rally to win the ODU/OBX intercollegiate. A Welland, Ontario, native, he finished tied with Heda for 19th with a two-over 215 (75-74-66) and the 66 ties the lowest round by a Ram since 2011.
