NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Rhode Island’s Joe Leavitt and VCU’s Matt Ball, Jr., earned the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Co-Golfer of the Week awards the league announced Thursday. VCU freshman Enej Sarkanj was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week as well. All three awards were for events played from March 19 – April 1.

Leavitt, a sophomore from Atkinson, N.H., finished in a tie for 12th place overall at the Wildcat invitational.  Leavitt compiled a 54-hole score of 223 (80-70-73).  He carded four birdies in that round.  His best round of the tournament came when he fired a 1-under par 70 during Monday's second round, the low round by a Rhody golfer.

Ball shot a 149 (74-75) to lead VCU to a first-place finish in the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational, the Rams second tournament win of the season. The senior from Richmond, Va., tied for fourth overall out of 115 golfers, including opening the event with a two-over 74 on the par 72, 6,761-yard course.

Sarkanj, a native of Maribor, Slovenia, finished just behind Ball, tied for sixth. He carded a 150 (76-74) in the 36-hole event to help VCU win the 22-team event, which was played at Hog Neck Golf Course & Prospect Bay C.C. That included his two-over final round.
