VCU Unanimously Picked to Win 2014 Golf Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—VCU was the unanimous selection to capture the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference men’s golf Championship, which begins later this month in Lutz, Fla.

The Rams received all 10 first-place votes in a poll of the league’s 10 head coaches, which was announced Thursday. VCU, which has already won two in-season tournaments through the Fall and Spring, finished second in last year’s A-10 Championship.

Richmond was picked to finish second with 89 points in the poll, garnering nine of 10 second-place votes. The Spiders finished fifth in the 2013 championship.

Rhode Island was picked third with 73 points, followed by Dayton with 61 points. George Mason tallied 58 points for fifth place and La Salle was sixth with 48 points.  

George Washington, which won the championship in 2012 was seventh in the polling, followed by St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph’s and Fordham.

The 2014 Championship will be played at TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, Fla., April 25-27. Admission to the championship is free.
