NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dayton secured three of the top five Atlantic 10 volleyball end-of-season awards, which were announced Thursday as a lead-in to the 2012 A-10 Volleyball Championship that begins Friday at Duquesne University.

Dayton senior outside hitter Rachel Krabacher was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year while her teammate, senior Samantha Selsky was named Setter of the Year. Dayton Coach Kelly Sheffield was named Coach of the Year. All three award winners are repeats, as each won their respective awards in 2011 as well. Temple's Chelsea Tupuola was named Libero of the Year and Martina Samadan of VCU took home Rookie of the Year honors.

The league also announced the seven-member All-Conference first and second teams and the seven-member All-Academic Team.

Krabacher, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks ninth nationally with 4.62 kills per set. She also leads the league in points per set at 5.03. A first team All-Region and All-American honorable mention in 2011, Krabacher is a Top 10 Finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and a second team Academic All-District honoree.

Selsky is ranked 16th nationally and leads the A-10 in assists per set with 11.53. A Manhattan Beach, Calif., native, she was a first team All-Region and All-America honorable mention as a junior, she is averaging 2.26 digs/set and leads the team in service aces this year

A native of Torrance, Calif., Tupuola ranks 34th nationally at 5.3 digs per set, which also leads the A-10.  She was named the 2012 Big 5 Tournament MVP and the 2012 Temple Invitational Tournament MVP. She also earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.

Samadan leads the league and is ranked fifth nationally in blocks per set at 1.64. A four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week and two time A-10 Defensive Player of the Week selection, she is on pace to set VCU season records in hitting, blocks per set and total blocks.  The Split, Croatia, native was named tournament MVP at the West Point Challenge.

Sheffield, who won his third straight Coach of the Year honor after leading the Flyers to a 23-4 record overall and a perfect 14-0 in Atlantic 10 play. Dayton, which has been ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll most of the season, is currently riding a 15-match winning streak. Sheffield's Flyers are currently ranked No. 12 and are the top seed for this weekend's championship.

Krabacher, Samadan and Selsky were also named First Team All-Conference. Joining the trio are Megan Campbell of Dayton, Duquesne's Arielle Love, Gabriella Matautia of Temple and Xavier's Alex Smith.  Tupuloa highlights the Second Team All-Conference selections and is joined by Allison Foschia of Duquesne, Lauren Whyte of George Washington and four Xavier players: Sarah Brown, Aubree Smith, Amé White and three-time Libero of the Year (2009-11) Stephanie Vorherr.

Samadan was an All-Rookie selection in addition to Janna Krafka and Alaina Turner of Dayton, Duquesne's Mary Henry and Taylor Lockett, Megan Gilbert of Saint Louis and Romana Kriskova from VCU.

The All-Academic Team includes Jenna Litoborski and Amanda Videmsek of Charlotte, Allison Foschia of Duquesne, Candace Silva-Martin from George Washington , Krabacher, Campbell and Whyte.

The 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship begins Friday at Duquesne's A.J. Palumbo Center with two quarterfinal matches at 4:30 pm (No. 3 VCU vs. No. 6 Butler) and 7:00 pm (No. 4 Duquesne vs. No. 5 Temple). The semifinals will be played Saturday at 3:30  and 6:00 pm, with No. 1 Dayton facing the Duquesne-Temple winner at 3:30 pm and No. 2 Xavier playing the VCU-Butler winner at 6:00 pm. The Championship final will be played Sunday at noon.

There is no charge for admission to the three-day, single-elimination tournament to support those located in the northeast impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In addition, the quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be streamed live on and the championship final will air on national television on CBS Sports Network.
