Oct. 19, 2012

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Senior CLASS Award finalists have been announced for women's volleyball and University of Dayton senior Rachel Krabacher has been named to the Top 10.

This award is given out each year to an outstanding representative both on the court and in the classroom.  By combining success in the specific sport, productivity in their school work, and a willingness to be active in the community, the winner of the award each year embodies what being a true student-athlete is all about.  To be eligible for the Senior CLASS Award, the player has to show excellence in four areas - community, classroom, character, and competition.  Krabacher excels in all four areas for the Flyers.

On the court, the outside hitter leads the team and the Atlantic 10 conference in kills with 4.49 per set.  This also puts her in the top 15 in the nation in that category as well.  With her veteran leadership, Krabacher has guided the Flyers to a No. 18 ranking in the nation and an undefeated A-10 record to this point.  She also averages a .286 hitting percentage, 2.19 digs per set, and 0.49 blocks per set.  Last season, Krabacher was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, and Academic All-District Second Team.  The Cincinnati native is majoring in chemical engineering at Dayton.

Voting for the Senior CLASS Award recipient starts now and will run through November 26th.  The winner will be announced during the NCAA Division I women's volleyball championships in Louisville, Ky. which begins on December 13th.  Fan votes, as well as media and coaches' votes will determine the winner.

Be sure to vote early and often for Rachel Krabacher, as a 2012 finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.
