NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Atlantic 10 Conference announced Thursday that it has hired Cornelio Galdones to serve as the league’s Coordinator of Volleyball Officials.
A long-time volleyball referee and assignor, Galdones is currently serving as a Regional Advisor to the NCAA on the Association’s officiating program. He has held national certification through USA Volleyball as a referee since 1991 and as a scorekeeper since 1992. He also has been certified by the Professional Associate of Volleyball Officials (PAVO) since 1996.
“We are excited to welcome Cornelio into the A-10 family,” stated Senior Associate Commissioner Debbie Richardson. “His background in volleyball officiating is outstanding and he will serve our membership well.”
Galdones has served as a head or lead referee for NAIA, AAU, and USA Volleyball national championships. He has also been an assignor of officials for USA Volleyball national championships and the National Capitol Area Board of Volleyball Officials, which serves schools in the Washington, DC area.
An accomplished collegiate official, Galdones has also worked in the NCAA ranks since 1987, officiating matches for The Atlantic 10, the ACC, the Big East, The Big 12, the CAA the Patriot League and the MEAC.
Galdones also has been published, writing articles and columns for Official Word, a publication produced by USA Volleyball and PAVO five times a year. He has also been published in Referee magazine, and in publications produced by the National Associate of Sports Officials and the national Federation of High Schools.
