NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Butler senior Rachel Barber and Temple junior Elyse Burkert Co-Offensive Players of the Week. Duquesne freshman Taylor Lockett was named Defensive Players of the Week and Dayton freshman Janna Krafka was also named Rookie of the Week. The A-10 announced the awards, the final weekly honors of the season, Monday for matches played Nov. 5 - Nov. 11.
Barber recorded 14 kills with just one error in a 3-0 win over Saint Louis that was critical in clinching the final berth to the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship. An outside hitter from Phoenix, Ariz., she hit .433 in the Bulldogs only match of the week, averaging 4.67 kills per set. Barber also contributed three digs and a block to the Butler victory.
In the Owls' final match of the season, which they needed to win to secure an A-10 Tournament berth, Burkert came through with a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs to lead the Owls to a sweep of La Salle. She recorded just one error in the match and hit .385 to solidify Temple's championship seed. An outside hitter from Richardson, Texas, it was Burkert's 17th double-double of the season.
Lockett recorded an astounding 10 blocks, including two solos in a 3-1 win over George Washington that cemented Duquesne's seed for the A-10 Championship. A middle hitter from Golden Valley, Minn., she averaged 2.5 blocks per set and contributed two digs to the defensive effort as well.
Krafka averaged 5.50 digs per set in Dayton's 3-1 victory at Xavier Saturday, as the Flyers wrapped up a perfect 14-0 season in the Atlantic 10. With 22 digs on the night and four assists, the Centerville, Ohio, native contributed on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. The libero's 22 digs was the second highest total of the season for the freshman.
