Newport News, Va. – Saint Joseph’s Brian O’ Keefe has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Richmond’s Zak Sterling was named Pitcher of the Week and his Spider teammate Matt Dacey earned Rookie of the Week honors.
O’Keefe continued his white-hot start to the season, upping his batting average to .420 with a 6-for-7 weekend against St. Bonaventure. O’Keefe drew two walks on the weekend as well to post a 2.318 OPS. In his only at bat in which he did not record a hit, O’Keefe reached base via an error and came around to score. O’Keefe scored seven times and drove in four runs in two games. The Albany, N.Y. native was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored in Friday’s win before going 3-for-3 with four runs scored despite leaving the game after five innings.
Sterling tossed 7.1 innings against UMass, surrendering just three hits and one run. The southpaw threw 96 pitches struck out one and did not issue a free pass. Sterling leads Richmond with three wins and a 2.54 ERA.
Dacey helped Richmond sweep UMass, collecting six hits in 13 at bats. In the series opener, Dacey had two hits and drove in three runs before going 3-for-5 with four RBI in game two. Dacey also hit a home run in game two and notched a double.
