RICHMOND, Va. – The return of the nickname "Hornets" for Charlotte's NBA team in 2014-15 isn't the only "Buzz" around the Queen City anymore.
Former VCU standout Troy Daniels, known as "Buzz" to his teammates and coaches, has inked a free-agent contract with the Bobcats (will be the Hornets in 2014-15). He joins Eric Maynor (Portland) and Larry Sanders (Bucks) as former Rams who are currently under contract with an NBA organization.
"I'm blessed and appreciative of the opportunity that Charlotte has given me," Daniels said. "Nothing is guaranteed entering the summer league so I know I have to go out and prove myself at this level."
The Roanoke, Va. native is coming off a record-breaking senior season in which he knocked down 124 3-pointers, the highest single season total in school history and the third highest in Atlantic 10 history. He finished with 251 treys in his career, which ranks second-most in program history.
Daniels will head to Las Vegas with the Bobcats' summer league squad. Games begin on Friday, July 12 with Charlotte taking on San Antonio at 10 p.m. All games can be seen on NBA.com.
