Anthony, Wright, Matthews Tabbed A-10 Players of the Week
Newport News, Va. – Richmond’s Kendall Anthony and St. Bonaventure’s Matthew Wright have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Co Players of the Week, while E.C. Mathews of Rhode Island earned his third consecutive Rookie of the Week nod and his fifth honor of the year.
Anthony helped Richmond to a pair of wins, averaging 22 points for the week. In a victory over Duquesne, the Jackson Tenn., native scored 20 points in 39 minutes of action, helping the Spiders to a 75-58 road win. Anthony returned home on Saturday and tossed in 24 points in a win over Fordham. For the week, Anthony made 11-of-28 (.393) shots from the floor. Anthony made six shots from beyond the arc and made all 16 of his free-throw attempts.
Wright helped St. Bonaventure to a pair of A-10 road wins last week. Wright scored 18 points and grabbed three rebounds in a Bonnies win at Fordham. Saturday, the Toronto native scored 24 points and snared four rebounds in a victory over George Mason. Wright made 12-of-31 (.387) shots on the week and converted 13-of-14 attempts from the foul line.
Matthews averaged 27.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in Rhode Island's two games this week. The Detroit native connected on 65.5% of his shots from the floor (19-29), including 8-of-14 from beyond the 3-point arc. Last time out against Duquesne, Matthews poured in 32 points - the second-highest scoring game by a freshman in the A-10 this year. Matthews connected on 11-of-15 shots, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, while also grabbing four boards and dishing out three assists. At Dayton on Feb. 12, Matthews scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, shooting 8-for-14 (2-2 3FG) from the floor. He also dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds.

Dayton’s Dyshawn Pierre scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in UD’s win over Rhode Island … Ovie Soko of Duquesne averaged 20 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of games for the Dukes … Fordham’s Jon Severe scored 28 points in a loss to Richmond … Byron Allen of George Mason had 19 points in a win over UMass and followed that with 26 points against St. Bonaventure … Patricio Garino of George Washington averaged 18.0 points in a pair of games for GW … UMass’ Sampson Carter averaged 18 points and connected on 59.1% shots from the field last week … Jerrell Wright of La Salle scored 16 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds at SJU … Saint Joseph’s Langston Galloway scored 18 points in 39 minutes of action against La Salle … Dwayne Evans scored 21 points in leading Saint Louis to a home win over VCU … VCU’s Treveon Graham averaged 20.5 points last week, including a 25 point performance against GW.
