NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Saint Louis senior Jordair Jett was named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week and Rhode Island freshman E.C. Matthews was named the league’s Rookie of the Week the league announced Monday. The awards are for games played Feb. 17-23.

Jett, a guard from St. Paul, Minn., led Saint Louis in scoring in both games last week, two wins that extended the Billikens’ winning streak to 19 games. Jett scored all but one of his game-high 25 points at George Mason in the second half and overtime. He also had eight assists and five rebounds against the Patriots. He followed that with 16 points, four assists and two steals in a home win over George Washington. For the week Jett, who won his fourth Player of the Week award, shot 51.7 percent.

Matthews won his sixth rookie award this season by averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week for Rhode Island.  The guard from Detroit connected 10-for-11 from the free throw line (90.9 percent).  His best performance of the week came in a road win at St. Bonaventure, scoring 24 points with four rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot.  He scored a team-high 17 points earlier in the week against Saint Joseph's, while also adding four boards, five assists and two steals.  Matthews has eighth 20+ scoring games since January - the most by any freshman nationally since the calendar changed.
