Road Teams Wins Four, SLU Claims 17th Straight

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Dwayne Evans had 21 points and 10 rebounds and No. 12 Saint Louis broke a late tie with seven straight points, beating VCU 64-62 for its 17th straight victory on Saturday.

The Billikens (23-2, 10-0 Atlantic 10) blew a 12-point second-lead before finally putting away VCU (20-6, 8-3) in a matchup of the Atlantic 10's top two teams. Jordair Jett and Rob Loe had 14 points apiece for Saint Louis, which beat VCU for a third straight time.

Mike McCall Jr. and Jordair Jett drove for layups and Rob Loe hit a 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down for a seven-point lead with 36 seconds to go. VCU cut the deficit to three before Loe hit the second of two free throws for a four-point gap with 8 seconds left.

Treveon Graham had 16 points and eight rebounds for VCU.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) - Sampson Carter scored 20 points as Massachusetts defeated George Washington 67-61 on Saturday.

The Minutemen (20-5, 7-4 Atlantic 10) handed the Colonials (19-6, 7-4) their first home loss of the season.

UMass shot 49 percent from the floor, including 5 of 15 from beyond the arc. Derrick Gordon added 11 points, while Raphiael Putney put up eight points and nine boards.

Patricio Garino had a big outing for GW, with 20 points and three steals. Isaiah Armwood had 16 points and 8 boards, while Maurice Creek added 11 points.

The game was always going to have hints of a grudge match - it was the first time the Colonials and the Minutemen faced each other since Massachusetts knocked George Washington out of the A-10 tournament last season.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Langston Galloway scored 18 points as all five starters reached double figures in Saint Joseph's 75-64 win over cross-town rival La Salle on Saturday.

De Andre Bembry added 16 points, Ronald Roberts, Jr., 15, and Halil Kanacevic and Chris Wilson had 10 apiece for the Hawks (17-7, 7-3 Atlantic 10). Kanacevic had six rebounds, six assists and four blocks.

La Salle (12-12, 4-6) was led by Jerrell Wright with 16 points, to surpass 1,000, and 15 rebounds, 9 on the offensive end. Tyreek Duren and reserve Tyrone Garland added 15 apiece.

Saint Joseph's, which led 36-26 at the half, went up 68-52 on a Wilson 3-pointer with 5:26 to play. La Salle then went on a 10-0 run, capped by a Taylor Dunn trey, to close within six with 2:12 to go. However, the Hawks closed by game by hitting 7 of 8 free throws, four by Galloway.

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Ovie Soko scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while L.G. Gill added 19 points as Duquesne took down Rhode Island 83-71 Saturday.

Duquesne (11-13, 3-8 Atlantic 10) jumped to a 42-34 halftime lead behind 15 first-half points from Soko and held off Rhode Island (11-15, 2-9) in the second half.

The Rams cut the lead to 47-43 early in the second half, as E.C. Matthews scored the first nine points of the half for Rhode Island. The Dukes responded with an 8-2 run, before the Rams came within 55-51 on a Hassan Martin dunk. That was as close as Rhode Island would get as Gill helped Duquesne pull away, scoring eight points in a span of just over 2 minutes to put Duquesne up 70-60.

Matthews led Rhode Island with a career-high 32 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Xavier Munford added 16 points. Martin had nine points and 10 rebounds.

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Matthew Wright scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half as St. Bonaventure pulled away late for an 85-73 win over George Mason on Saturday night.

The Bonnies (15-10, 5-6 Atlantic 10) also got 18 and 15 points from reserves Jordan Gathers and Dion Wright, respectively.

George Mason's Bryon Allen led all scorers with 26 points for the Patriots (9-16, 2-9).

Trailing 46-44 with 12 minutes left, the Bonnies went on a 9-0 run keyed by seven points from Matthew Wright.

Sherrod Wright's 3-point play pulled the Patriots to within 62-56 with just under seven minutes to play, but four straight free throws started a 13-2 Bonnies run capped by five straight points from Gathers.

The Bonnies led by as many as 15 points and the Patriots got no closer than within 10 the rest of the way.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Kendall Anthony scored 24 points and Richmond defeated Fordham 82-70 on Saturday night.

Richmond (17-,8, 7-3 Atlantic 10) ran its win streak to three and has won seven of its last nine after its victory over the Rams (9-15, 2-9) before a sold-out crowd of 7,201 at Robins Center.

Anthony, the Atlantic 10 scoring leader in conference games at 19.6 points per game coming in, made all 10 of his free throws. ShawnDre' Jones added 14 points, Deion Taylor 13 and Trey Davis 11 for the Spiders.

Jon Severe scored 28 points for the Rams, who have lost three straight. Branden Frazier added 24.

The Spiders led 38-31 at halftime. The Rams rallied within two with 10:38 left in the game. Richmond rebuilt the lead, and a basket and two free throws by Anthony put the Spiders up 13 with 2:39 left. The lead remained in double figures thereafter.
