A-10 QUICK HITS

-Seven Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball programs have earned postseason berths.   Dayton and Saint Joseph’s will represent the Atlantic 10 in the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament. Five A-10 teams were also selected to take part in the 2013 WNIT with all five beginning play on Thursday.  This marks the fifth straight year that the A-10 has had five teams in the WNIT.

-Dayton earned an at large bid to the 64 team field, will be the seventh seed in the Bridgeport bracket and will open up play against 10th seeded St. John’s (18-12) on Sunday in Queens, N.Y.   The Flyers will be making their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.   UD is 27-2 and finished a perfect 14-0 in A-10 regular season play.

-Saint Joseph’s (23-8) secured a spot in the tournament after capturing the 2013 Buick Atlantic 10 Championship with a 47-46 win over Fordham on Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.  The Hawks are seeded ninth in the Bridgeport Regional and will face eighth seed Vanderbilt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in Storrs, Connecticut.

-The Charlotte women’s basketball team picked up victory No. 25 on the campaign, the second highest in school history, as it pulled away late to defeat Appalachian State, 79-61, Thursday evening during WNIT First Round action inside Halton Arena. The 49ers’ triumph is their first in the postseason since 2011 when they advanced to the WNIT Semifinals.  Charlotte’s 25 triumphs are just two shy of that school-record run two years ago, while Thursday’s win was also No. 13 at home this year, equaling the single-season school mark established four previous times.

-The Fordham Rams notched their first postseason victory since beginning NCAA play in the early 1980s, topping Army 55-46 in the First Round of the WNIT. It marks Fordham’s first postseason win since 1980 and also tied the second-highest win total in postseason history. Fordham is making its first appearance in the WNIT and the first in a postseason tournament since 1994, when Fordham made its only appearance in the Big Dance.  The Rams lost to number one seeded Penn State, 94-41, in that game.

-2013 marks the fifth straight year Duquesne has participated in the WNIT. In 2009, the Dukes played its first-ever post-season game.
