NEWPORT NEWS, Va -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named La Salle's Lauren McDermott its women's lacrosse Player of the Week, Massachusetts' Tanner Guarino the Defensive Player of the Week and Mikayla Place of St. Bonaventure the league's Rookie of the Week.
McDermott recorded a pair of hat tricks in a 2-0 week for La Salle. The highlight of the week for McDermott and the Explorers was when the senior scored the game-tying goal and game-winning goal in a 53-second span in 14-13 come-from-behind win over San Diego State. McDermott also registered three goals in a La Salle win over Fresno State.
Guarino had a key groundball in the second half of overtime that gave UMass possession prior to Sam Rush scoring the game-winning goal in a 9-8 victory over Albany on Friday. Guarino finished the day with a game-high 5 groundballs, a team-best three caused turnovers, a draw control and a goal. Three of her groundballs in the second half led directly to UMass goals including her own which came just after Albany had taken a 6-4 lead early in the second half. The five groundballs and three caused turnovers were both career high marks.
Place came off the bench for the Bonnies and scored the second goal of her career while handing out a game, team-season a career-high five assists in a win over Delaware State on Sunday. The freshman also added one draw control and a caused turnover to her stat sheet.
