#A10WBB News & Notes

>The A-10 has six teams ranked in the top-100 of the RPI report.  Saint Joseph’s is currently 10, Dayton is 47,  while Fordham is 50 . The A-10 as a whole is ranked ninth among conferences.

>Dayton is on a six-game winning streak, including five-consecutive wins to close out the non-conference portion of its season and a 91-64 win over A-10 newcomer George Mason in the Flyers’ conference opener on Jan. 8.  Dayton registered a 112-85 victory over the Wright State Raiders Thursday, Jan. 2 at UD Arena. Dayton topped the 100-point mark for the second-straight game, also defeating Central Michigan at UD Arena, 102-89 on Dec. 30. It marked the first time since 2009-10 that Dayton scored 100 points twice in one season. It’s the first time, since UD became a Division I program in 1984-85, that the Flyers scored 100 points in back-to-back games.

>George Washington  outscored Atlantic 10 rival Saint Louis by 24 points in the second half as the Colonials won their eighth straight game, 84-61, on Wednesday evening at the Charles E. Smith Center. GW improves to 12-4 overall, its best start since 2007-08, and moves to 3-0 in A-10 play for the first time since 2006-07. The Colonials’ eight-game win streak is their longest since taking nine straight from Dec. 1, 2007-Jan. 16, 2008.

>La Salle continued its impressive streak, winning its fifth in the last six games with a 63-58 upset of VCU at Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday night in the Atlantic 10 home opener. The Explorers’ 8-7 record is the best through 15 games in Head Coach Jeff Williams’ tenure and is the best since the 2008-09 squad went 9-6 through its first 15. The Explorers also start the Atlantic 10 season at 3-0 for the second time in the past three years, also going 3-0 at the start of the 2011-12 season.

>Dayton and VCU are both receiving votes in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll.  The Flyers have won six in a row to improve to 8-4, while the Rams are off to their best start in 40 years with a 14-2 mark.
