Deane, Missry Earn Weekly #A10WBB Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton sophomore Amber Deane has been named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Fordham freshman Hannah Missry was tabbed as the Conference’s Rookie of the Week.
Deane was instrumental in a pair of Flyers’ wins this week over George Washington and Fordham. Deane hit a career-high five three-pointers and tallied 23 points vs. the Colonials in a battle of the final teams unbeaten in league play. She scored a team-high 15 points in UD’s come-from-behind 73-64 win over Fordham on Jan. 19. Deane had two “and-one” plays in the final five minutes of the game against Fordham, converting both traditional three-point plays. The first at 4:24 gave UD its first lead, 55-54, since the 10:57 mark of the second half. The second came at the 1:55 mark and gave UD an eight-point lead. On the week, the Lathrup Village Mich., native led all Flyers in field goal percentage, knocking down 58.3 percent of her shots. She also hit 45.5 percent of her three-point field goal attempts. Deane averaged 7.5 rpg.
Missry hit two of the biggest three pointers in her young career on Wednesday night at VCU, scoring eight of her 17 points down the stretch of a comeback win over the Rams from Richmond on Wednesday. With five three-pointers in that game, Missry tied a career-high. Facing off against Dayton on Sunday afternoon, Missry connected on four of her six attempts from downtown, finishing the game with 12 points. For the week, the Jackson, N.J. native averaged 14.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg.
A-10 Honor Roll
Dayton rookie Celeste Edwards had a career-high seven assists and a career-high seven rebounds in UD’s 90-69 win over George Washington … Wumi Agunbiade of Duquesne averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds in the Dukes two victories this week recorded, notching her 23rd career double-double in the process … Against VCU on Wednesday night, Fordham’s Erin Rooney became only the second player in Ram history, the first in 22 years, to record a triple-double in a game. Rooney tallied 11 points, 11 assists, and ten rebounds, becoming the first player since Kelly Roche in February of 1992 to achieve such a feat … George Washington’s Jonquel Jones averaged 21.0 points, 14.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in road games at Dayton and George Mason, shooting 58.1 percent (18-31) from the floor. Her teammate Caira Washington averaged 14.5 points per game on 76.9 percent (10-13) shooting and added 5.0 rebounds per contest … Rhode Island’s Sydney Lewis had a career-high 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting. She also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in SBU’s only game this week, a 62-47 loss at Duquesne … St. Bonaventure sophomore Katie Healy posted a career-high 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds (10 defensive boards) for her third consecutive double-double and sixth of the season en route to the Bonnies commanding victory over La Salle … Leading the Hawks to a 2-0 record on the week, and an undefeated Big 5 crown, Natasha Cloud averaged 13 points, nine rebounds and 7.5 assists per game for SJU. On Friday against Penn, Cloud tallied 12 points and added nine rebound, six assists and four steals in a 60-52 victory. She followed with a near triple-double, scoring 14 points to go with nine rebounds and nine assists, while going 4-of-6 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the foul line … Robyn Parks of VCU Averaged 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals last week. Parks recorded 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals against Fordham then followed with her seventh double-double of the year with game highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds at UMass. Ram rookie Keira Robinson averaged 10.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals last week.
