NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dayton sophomore Amber Deane has been named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Fordham freshman Hannah Missry was tabbed as the Conference’s Rookie of the Week.

Deane was instrumental in a pair of Flyers’ wins this week over George Washington and Fordham.  Deane hit a career-high five three-pointers and tallied 23 points vs. the Colonials in a battle of the final teams unbeaten in league play. She scored a team-high 15 points in UD’s come-from-behind 73-64 win over Fordham on Jan. 19. Deane had two “and-one” plays in the final five minutes of the game against Fordham, converting both traditional three-point plays. The first at 4:24 gave UD its first lead, 55-54, since the 10:57 mark of the second half. The second came at the 1:55 mark and gave UD an eight-point lead. On the week, the Lathrup Village Mich., native led all Flyers in field goal percentage, knocking down 58.3 percent of her shots. She also hit 45.5 percent of her three-point field goal attempts. Deane averaged 7.5 rpg.

Missry hit two of the biggest three pointers in her young career on Wednesday night at VCU, scoring eight of her 17 points down the stretch of a comeback win over the Rams from Richmond on Wednesday.  With five three-pointers in that game, Missry tied a career-high.  Facing off against Dayton on Sunday afternoon, Missry connected on four of her six attempts from downtown, finishing the game with 12 points. For the week, the Jackson, N.J. native averaged 14.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg.

Rooney tallied 11 points, 11 assists, and ten rebounds, becoming the first player since Kelly Roche in February of 1992 to achieve such a feat …   George Washington’s Jonquel Jones averaged 21.0 points, 14.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in road games at Dayton and George Mason, shooting 58.1 percent (18-31) from the floor.
