RICHMOND, Va. – La Salle got 23 points from Micahya Owens and 20 points form Alicia Cropper at the seventh-seeded Explorers topped 10th seeded Rhode Island, 65-56, in the First Round of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship in Richmond, Va.
La Salle improves to 15-14 overall and advances to take to the second-seeded Bonnies of St. Bonaventure at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in quarterfinal action. Saint Louis ends its season 12-18.
The Explorers also got 10 points and 13 rebounds Leeza Burgess. Jasmine Alston snared 12 rebounds as the duo helped La Salle to a 47-31 edge on the boards.
Saint Louis had three players in double figures led by Desirae Ball’s 16 points, while Denisha Womack had 12 points and Olivia Jakubicek added 10 points.
La Salle converted 20-of-26 attempts from the foul line and shot an even 40% for the game, making 20-of-50 shots from the floor.
Saint Louis shot 33.8% from the field on 22-of-65 shooting. SLU was just 3-of-22 from three point.
