RICHMOND, Va. – Sixth-seeded Duquesne advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship with a 61-53 victory over 11th seeded Rhode Island Thursday evening at the Richmond Coliseum.

The Dukes improve to 19-11 overall and advance to Friday Quarterfinal action against third-seeded Fordham at 7:30 p.m.  Rhode Island ends its season with a 7-23 mark.

April Robinson led three Dukes in double digits with 13 points, while Raegan Moore and Olivia Bresnahan each had 12 in the win.  Moore also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to help Duquesne to a slim 34-33 edge on the glass.

Rhode Island got 11 points from Sydney Lewis, while Tati Johnson came off the bench to score 10 points for the Rams.

Rhode Island took a 27-21 lead following a Tayra Melendez bucket with 3:51 to play in the first-half.

Duquesne would rally by closing out the half on a 10-0 run to take a 31-27 lead at the break.

Rhode Island rallied to start the second-half, cutting the Dukes lead to three on a Samantha Tabakman jumper with just under 15 minutes to play in the game.

A Jose-Ann Johnson put back on the other end sparked a 9-2 run that was capped by an Orsi Szecsi bucket to give Duquesne a 10 point edge with 12 minutes to play.

Rhode Island would battle back again cutting the lead to three with 3:16 left.  That would be as close as the Rams would get as Duquesne got a big three pointer from Oditte Odisho on its ensuing possession to seal the win.
