Richmond, Va. – Dayton held George Washington to just 29.9 percent shooting from the floor en route to posting an 89-68 victory over the Colonials in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball tournament at the Richmond Coliseum.
With both teams trading baskets over the first four minutes, the Flyers picked up their defense and held GW to 0-for-8 from the floor over the course of 6:04 to take a 13-point lead (22-9) with 10:06 to play in the first half.
The Colonials’ cold shooting continued throughout the rest of the half, as they went just 4-of-21, contributing to a 39-25 halftime deficit.
GW chipped away at the Dayton lead at the start of the second period, pulling within nine points (53-44) with 12:55 left on the clock. That would be as close as the Colonials would get, as the Flyers responded with a 21-4 run to see their lead grow to 26 points with 7:11 left.
The Flyers never let the lead slip, and cruised to the 22-point victory.
Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Andrea Hoover, led the Flyers with a game-high 22 points and added eight rebounds and two assists. Ally Malott recorded 19 points and nine rebounds, while Andrijana Cvitkovic chipped in 11 points and nine boards. Amber Dean added six points and a game-high eight assists.
