Rush, Prince, Vallarelli, Illgenfritz Earn A-10 WLAX Honors

Newport News, Va.  – UMass’ Sam Rush and Caitlin Prince of Duquesne have been named Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Co-Players of the Week for games played Mar. 17-23Additionally, Massachusetts goalkeeper Rachel Vallarelli was named Defensive Player of the Week, while La Salle’s Allee Ilgenfritz was tabbed as Rookie of the Week.

Rush led UMass with 9 goals in a pair of wins over Vermont and Southern California this past week. The senior attack tied her season-high with five goals on the road at Vermont on Tuesday. At home on Saturday, she pegged another four goals to lead UMass to its ninth consecutive win. She now has six games with three-or-more goals this season. Rush also recorded her third game-winning goal of the year which came in Saturday’s win over USC. Her nine goals during the week give her a team-best 30 for the season.

Prince helped Duquesne to a 2-0 week, picking up a 12-11 win against Canisius in overtime and an 18-5 victory over Mt. Saint Mary’s. For the week Prince tallied 10 points on nine goals and one assist.  Prince scored four goals and added an assist against Canisius before finding the back of the net five times against The Mount.

Vallarelli picked up a pair of wins during the week coming at Vermont on Tuesday and at home against Southern California. For the week, she made 14 saves while allowing 12 goals overall for a .538 save percentage and a 6.00 GAA. She also collected five groundballs. In the win at Vermont, she made six total saves while allowing six goals on 25 shots faced and had four groundballs. In the win over USC, she made eight saves on 15 shots faced while allowing six goals and collected a groundball. For her career, Vallarelli now sports a 20-2 overall record with a 7.56 GAA and a .432 save percentage. Her 2014 GAA of 5.84 is a career best mark, while her save percentage of .473 is her second best total so far.

Ilgenfritz notched her first career hat trick in the Explorers’ 20-1 rout of Delaware State.  The York, Pa. native  has now scored in two straight games, marking the first four collegiate goals of her career.  Against Delaware State, she went 2-3 on free position shots and also grabbed one ground ball and recorded one caused turnover.
