PHILADELPHIA - La Salle alumna Cheryl Reeve, who has quickly become one of the highest regarded coaches in the WNBA ranks, has been selected as an assistant coach for the 2014 USA FIBA World Championship Team. The FIBA World Championship is set for Sept. 27 - Oct. 5 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Reeve will be coaching alongside Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma, who returns as the Team USA head coach after guiding the 2010 squad as well as the 2012 Olympic team. Reeve joins DePaul head coach Doug Bruno and South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley on Auriemma's Team USA staff.

Reeve brings a prolific resume to the international scene, bringing the Minnesota Lynx from worst to first within two seasons as head coach. She took over the helm in time for the 2010 season, and earned her first WNBA title in 2011. That marked the first of two championship titles in three seasons (2011, 2013) and the first of three straight WNBA Finals appearances. With the WNBA season about to get underway this Friday, she coached the Lynx to the first-ever WNBA Preseason Tournament title with three wins at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex.

In addition to two WNBA titles and three Western Conference titles, Reeve has guided a WNBA Rookie of the Year (Maya Moore), along with two WNBA Finals MVPs, four First Team picks, four Second Team honorees, two All-Rookie selections and three All-Defensive team selections along with being named the 2011 WNBA Coach of the Year.

Reeve, a 1988 La Salle graduate, was one of the leaders on the Explorers' 1987-88 squad that went 25-5 and earned a national ranking. That year, she was an All-MAAC and All-Big 5 pick. She holds the school record for most starts in a career (110) and ranks fifth in career assists (420). She was a Rhodes Scholar nominee, MAAC Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Award recipient and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in 1988.
