NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade announced Tuesday the appointment of Mike Vest as the A-10’s new Associate Commissioner for External Affairs.
In his new position with the A-10, Vest will be charged with interacting on a daily basis with the conference’s media rights holders as well as overseeing the A-10’s digital strategy, branding efforts, and external marketing strategy. He will also work with the A-10’s multimedia rights holder IMG and technology partners in the continual development and oversight of the A-10 Network. Vest will work with each A-10 institution to maximize the exposure of the A-10 Network as well as maximizing all distribution platforms.
“I am looking forward to Mike and his family joining the Atlantic 10 Conference. He brings a wealth of experience to the conference that will benefit the membership as we continue to grow the A-10 Network and our technology distribution,” stated McGlade. “The league has enjoyed significant growth and Mike is the perfect individual to lead our technology and digital advancement.”
Vest comes to the Atlantic 10 from IMG College where he served as Director of Digital Assets & University Partnerships since February of 2013. During his time at IMG, Vest managed digital rights, content and products at 25+ NCAA properties, including official athletics websites, mobile apps, social media, audio/video subscriptions/distribution, merchandise and other e-commerce opportunities.
Prior to his stint with IMG, Vest spent over five years (2007-2013) at the Big 10 Network, as the Communications Manager and most recently as its Director of Social Media & University Development from 2011-2013. Vest was one of the network’s 25 original employees and helped make it the first network in cable history to reach 30 million households within its first 30 days on the air. In addition to being the network’s day-to-day media contact and spokesman, Vest spearheaded social media strategy with an emphasis on content development, on-air integration, marketing and customer service to drive increased television viewership, fan engagement, sponsorship sales, web traffic and e-commerce. Vest also managed the network's relationships with Big Ten athletic departments, Big Ten Conference office, IMG and Learfield Sports.
Vest began his career on campus in the media relations office at Wake Forest University. From 2000-2007 Vest served as the primary media contact for baseball, soccer and tennis programs. Vest also oversaw the publicity efforts for Wake Forest football, which won the 2006 ACC Championship and reached the 2007 FedEx Orange Bowl.
"I am honored to join the Atlantic 10 Conference staff, particularly during such an exciting period of growth," said Vest. “I'd like to thank Commissioner McGlade for this opportunity. I look forward to working with the conference membership and its partners as we build upon the conference's strong reputation."
A 2000 graduate of the University of Kansas, Vest earned degree in journalism and business communication.
