Kidder, Blazer, Murphy Take A-10 Women's Lax Awards

Newport News, Va. – Duquesne’s Amanda Kidder has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.  Richmond’s Taylor Blazer earned her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week nod, while Hannah Murphy of Massachusetts earned Rookie of the Week honors. 

Kidder helped Duquesne run its win streak to 10 with a pair of A-10 victories over the weekend.  Kidder scored 13 goals on 14 shots in wins over George Washington and George Mason.  The Fairport, N.Y. native also had two assists, five draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Kidder scored seven goals and grabbed three draw controls in a 19-12 win over GW.   She followed that by scoring on all six of her shots against Mason.  Kidder also had two assists, three ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers against the Patriots.

A native of Berlin, Md., Blazer helped Richmond to A-10 wins over Saint Joseph’s and La Salle.  Blazer set a new career mark with 10 draws won Sunday against La Salle.  Blazer also grabbed four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers against SJU. For the week, Blazer collected nine ground balls and won 13 draws, while causing five caused turnovers as the Spiders held their first two league opponents to an average of five goals per game and have held  their last five combined opponents to 5.2 goals per game.

Murphy helped UMass to a 2-0 weekend to open Atlantic 10 play by scoring two goals, recording one assist, along with five groundballs, two draw controls and causing three turnovers. In the win over La Salle, she had a goal, an assist, three groundballs and one caused turnover. In the win over Saint Joseph’s, she had a goal, two groundballs, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
