Swavola, Hicks, Kidder Earn Lacrosse Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Atlantic 10 has named Temple junior midfielder Charlotte Swavola as its lacrosse offensive player of the week, junior goalkeeper Jess Hicks of George Washington as its defensive player of the week and Duquesne freshman midfielder Amanda Kidder as its Rookie of the Week. The league announced the three awards, Tuesday for matches played during the week of March 12-18, 2012.
Swavola scored a hat trick and tallied an assist in Temple’s 11-9 win over Delaware. The Cheltenham, Pa., native’s goals were key in a comeback effort against the Blue Hens. She scored twice in a 4-0 run for the Owls that erased a 7-4 deficit. Swavola scored again late to re-tie the game following a pair of Delaware goals. She also tallied three ground balls and two draw controls in the win.
Hicks allowed just seven goals in an 11-7 GW victory over Villanova. She made eight saves and posted a .533 save percentage versus the Wildcats. The Brandywine, Md., native registered the win after facing 24 shots in 60 minutes of action. Hicks has not allowed double-digit goals in any of her five starts this season.
Kidder tallied seven points on four goals and three assists in a pair of Duquesne wins last week. She had a goal and an assist versus Robert Morris and followed that with three goals and two assists against Niagara. The Fairport, N.Y., native also had seven ground balls, three draw controls and four caused turnovers in the two wins.
