UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va -- The University of Richmond announced the hiring of former US National Team standout Allison Evans as head women’s lacrosse coach.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Allison Evans to our coaching staff and Spider family,” Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator LaRee Sugg said. “She is a wonderful fit for our program as she clearly values the academic goals of the institution and embraces the student-athlete experience. She is highly motivated to maintain and surpass the high athletic standards the athleticsdepartment has established for this program.”

Evans previously comes from Dartmouth College, where she was an assistant coach for two seasons. While there, she guided the Big Green to back-to-back NCAA appearances (2011, 2012) and the Ivy Tournament Championship crown in 2012.

Evans coached 12 All-Ivy honorees, including a two-time Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Additionally, Evans cultivated 10 IWLCA All-Region honorees and four All-Americans.

“I am honored and excited to be joining the Spider family,” said Evans. “I want to thank Athletics Director, Jim Miller, and Associate Athletic Director, LaRee Sugg, for this opportunity.  Richmond has a strong program and I'm looking forward to building upon that in the years to come.”

Prior to Dartmouth, Evans was the top assistant coach at Columbia, where she was primarily responsible for the defense and midfield players, mentoring two All-Ivy honorees.

Before Columbia, Evans spent two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, William & Mary. While there, the Tribe won the 2009 CAA regular season title, achieved a top-20 ranking and set single-season records for goals and points.

Evans was a standout midfielder for the Tribe, earning All-CAA honors twice in her career (2002, 2003). Evans was acaptain her senior season, and finished her stellar collegiate career with 116 points. In 2006, Evans was named to the prestigious US National Elite Team and also served as a coach’s trainer for that program.

Evans earned her master’s degree in sports management from Columbia in 2012 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from William & Mary in 2003.
