AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts Minutewomen (16-2) advanced to the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship game with a 13-5 win over George Washington (9-8) at McGuirk Stadium in Amherst. The Minutewomen were led by juniors Sam Rush and Melissa Carelli, who both recorded hat tricks in the contest.

The two teams traded goals in the opening minutes of the game, knotting the game at two apiece before Massachusetts extended their lead, 4-2 on goals from Lauren Terracciano and Melissa Carelli. 

George Washington took advantage of early penalties, scoring twice on man-up opportunities, but trailed the reigning champions, 5-4 at the intermission. 

The second half belonged to UMass as they dominated the offensive end of the field, outscoring GW 8-1 after the break. Massachusetts held the Colonials scoreless for the first 17 minutes of the second period, taking an 11-4 lead.

Nicole Lacy scored the final goal for George Washington, her 40th of the seson, to make it 11-5, but UMass tacked on goals from Melissa Carelli and Tanner Guarino to clinch the victory. 

Massachusetts will face the winner of the Duquesne/Temple semifinal game in the Championship Finale, broadcasted live on CBS Sports Network at 1pm on Sunday. The Minutewomen will chase history as they try for their fifth consecutive A-10 title.
