NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Lacrosse teams from George Washington and Temple have been honored as  NCAA Division I Academic Squad by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), the organization announced on Tuesday. For both teams, it was the sixth straight year they were honored.

The IWLCA recognized 42 teams for the 2011-12 school year for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Colonials saw 22 student-athletes earn spots on the GW Athletic Academic Dean’s List, while five were named to the A-10 Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls. Additionally, the program has earned IWLCA academic honors every year under the direction of sixth-year head coach Tara Hannaford.

The 25 Temple lacrosse student-athletes actually posted an oustanding collective grade-point-average of 3.52 for the spring of 2012, which was also the team's competition season. The GPA, which was the highest semester GPA in the tenure of sixth-year head coach Bonnie Rosen, included six student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.9 and one with a 4.0.
