Newport News, Va. -- George Washington junior attacker Jamie Bumgardner and sophomore defender Julia Lawson were named the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, while Saint Joseph’s Nora McCallion was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Week.
Bumgardner recorded averages of 3.0 goals, 4.50 assists and 7.50 points in the Colonials’ consecutive victories as she set single-game program records and improved her standing in the GW record book. In the Buff and Blue’s 21-10 victory over Liberty on Wednesday, Bumgardner paced the squad with a program-record 12 points on six goals and a single-game mark of six assists. She then helped GW to an 8-7 win over future A-10 foe Davidson on Saturday when she dished out three assists, moving into third all-time with 56 career helpers. Bumgardner also picked up four ground balls and won three draw controls.
Lawson was a key part of a GW defense that held its opponents to a .415 shot percentage as it outscored its competition, 29-17, in the two victories. The sophomore picked up eight ground balls, including a game-high seven against the Lady Flames, won five draw controls and caused five turnovers in the two contests.
In a 1-0 week, McCallion led all SJU freshmen in scoring with one goal and three assists on Thursday in SJU's 19-1 win over Delaware State. The rookie also recorded two shots and picked up two ground balls in the win.
On the season, McCallion leads all Saint Joseph's freshmen in scoring (3G, 3A) and has landed three of her four total shots on goal for a .750 SOG percentage.
