Newport News, Va. – Katie Ferris of Massachusetts has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while La Salle’s Gabby Antonelli and Toni Massetti have been named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.   The trio was recognized for games played April 7 – April 13.

Ferris led UMass to a 2-0 weekend with wins at George Washington (20-6) and at home against George Mason (22-2). The senior posted 12 points on the weekend along with five caused turnovers and three groundballs. In the win at George Washington, Ferris had five goals, one assist, two groundballs and one caused turnover. In the Senior Day win over George Mason, she had three goals and three assists along with four caused turnovers and one groundball. Her transition defense in the Mason game was a major part in the Patriots being successful on just 7-of-19 clears. Her 12 point weekend gives her 312 career points making her the 21st most prolific point producer in NCAA history.

Antonelli made 17 saves including a potential game-tying point-blank shot at the horn to help the Explorers upset league-leading Duquesne 10-9.  She then added nine saves in the win over St. Bonaventure to complete the weekend sweep.  Antonelli made saves on four straight Duquesne free position attempts late in the second half and helped the squad overcome a two-woman-down disadvantage in the final three minutes of play with two of those free position saves and holding the Dukes scoreless in that time.  She recorded a .634 save percentage on the weekend and a 7.50 GAA.

Massetti tied for the team scoring lead on the week with six points on five goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal in the Explorers’ victory over the Dukes, which came when the Explorers were in a two-woman-down disadvantage. In addition to her two goals against the Dukes, she added  her fourth hat trick of the season along with an assist for four points against St. Bonaventure.  She also picked up four ground balls on the weekend and controlled three draws.
