NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne’s Jim Spisak and Dayton’s Elissa Mason were named the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Men’s and Women’s Performers of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday. Richmond’s Tim Becker and Dayton’s Katie Ollier also were honored as Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week.
Spisak, a junior from Johnstown, Pa., and also a 2010 Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection, won the Duquesne Duals in a dominating fashion this past weekend finishing the race 46 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. His overall time was 25:20:00.
Mason, a senior from Greenwood, Ind., led the way for Dayton in the Flyer 5K Challenge as five Dayton runners placed in the Top 10, including first, second, and third. Mason finished the race with a time of 18:15.3.
Becker, a Wilton, Conn., native, clocked in the third-fastest freshman time in the 10-year history of the Alumni Spider Open with a mark of 15:49:00 on way to placing 11th out of 33 runners.
Also in her collegiate debut, Ollier, a freshman from Dayton, Ohio., contributed to Dayton’ s success as she posted a time of 19:08.3 on her way to recording an eighth-place finish at the Flyer 5K Challenge.
