La Salle Women's Cross Country Predicted to Take First in A-10 Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - For the second straight year, La Salle Women's Cross Country is predicted to win the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship title, according to the preseason ranking conducted by the league's 16 head coaches.

Finishing with 69 points, La Salle earned first place at the 2011 A-10 Championship. The Explorers will return two Top 10 finishers, seniors Meghan McGlenchey and Stephanie Bearish. McGlenchey placed seventh with a time of 17:47.0 and Bearish placed eighth with a time of 17:47.5.

Dayton lands second on the coaches' preseason ranking. The Flyers return All-Conference junior, Lizzie Gleason, who finished 11th overall with a time of 17:49 at the 2011 A-10 Championship.

The Spiders took the third place spot on the coaches' preseason ranking. Returning junior, Jill Prentice, finished 1st overall at the 2011 A-10 Championship with a time of 17:13.

Rounding out the top five are Charlotte and Butler, followed by Saint Joseph's, Duquesne, Xavier, Saint Louis, Fordham, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, VCU, Temple, George Washington, and St. Bonaventure.

The 2012 Women's Cross Country Championship will be hosted by Temple at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, Pa. on Oct. 27.
